Clutter tends to accumulate gradually and before you know where you are your house is in disorganised disarray, and you feel overwhelmed and don't quite know where to start sorting things out. But to combat clutter you have to play it at its own game and beat it gradually, over time. Even if you only schedule fifteen minutes each day for re-organising your cluttered life, that's an hour and a half a week, and you will soon begin to notice a difference. But what will really make a difference is using some tried and tested organisational skills. So don't procrastinate, start combating clutter today with these simple tips to get you going:
Put a Sock in it
Tired of all those odd socks drifting around? Never seem to be able to find a matching pair? Get control of the sock situation once and for all by putting each pair of socks in a small zip-lock plastic bag, that way you can always be sure to have a matching pair on hand when you need one.
If your chairs and sofas are getting swamped by coats, scarves and hats, there is a simple solution to combat this clutter. Install a row of coat hooks inside a closet door or on a convenient wall so that you can hang them. If you don't have space for this, buy a coat stand for your hall way.
Drawer the Line
Drawers are hotspots for clutter. Things quickly pile up and become disorganised, and before you know it you can't find a thing. Multiple searches for small objects make drawers even more untidy. You can solve this problem by using a drawer organiser. They come in all shapes and sizes and are made from plastic so they are easy to clean. They have a wide range of different shapes and size compartments so that you can find one to suit your individual needs.
Boost Your Bathroom
Bathroom vanities are another hotspot for clutter. Make-up and toiletry items often tend to get left out and soon accumulate. A small basket makes a great organiser for these items and can be easily slipped into the bathroom cabinet when you're done with them.
Worm Out Your Books
When was the last time you sorted out your bookshelves? If you are an avid book collector your bookshelves may be getting cluttered. Sort through your books and see if there are any that are old and torn and can be thrown out. Make a pile of books you have read and no longer need, to donate to charity. While you are going through, organise any other nick-knacks that have found their way on to your bookshelves that can be put away.
Beat Your Bedroom Blues
Be brave and take a look under your bed. If you have accumulated clutter under there then pull it out and decide if you can discard or re-home any of it. If you need to use that space for storage, use specially designed storage boxes or bags. These can be hidden by a bed skirt.
